Daytime Notes (Free)

Attach feedback to the exact element it’s about: click, leave a note, done. Daytime Notes is a complete tool for gathering feedback on a WordPress site, and it’s free on WordPress.org. Not a trial. Not a cut-down teaser. Just a focused tool that does one thing well.

What it does

  • Notes on any element: click anything on any page and leave a note. The element is highlighted, so there’s never any doubt what a note is about.
  • Two-way highlighting: hover over a note to see its element on the page, or hover over a highlighted item on the page to find its note.
  • Threaded conversations: reply to any note to keep the discussion together. Replies stay collapsed until you want them.
  • @mentions: type @ and pick a name to assign a note to someone.
  • Task tracking: mark notes complete, reopen them if needed, and switch between Open and Completed to see what’s still outstanding.
  • Pages with notes: one menu shows every page that has notes, with counts, and takes you straight there.
  • Email notifications: people are emailed when they’re mentioned, when someone replies to their note, or when their task is completed. Notes are gathered into one tidy summary per person instead of an email for every note. Send them yourself with one click, or they go out automatically every 4 hours. Each email links straight to the page, with the notes already open.
  • A client-safe Reviewer role: clients can leave notes on the site, but are kept out of the WordPress admin and never see other people’s usernames.
  • Dashboard overview: a widget on your WordPress dashboard shows where notes are waiting.
  • Your data stays on your site: no outside service and no account to sign up for. Notes are stored in your own WordPress database.

Who it’s for

  • Freelance developers and designers handing a finished site to a client for review.
  • Small teams collecting feedback without a separate tool or a client Slack channel.
  • Anyone maintaining a site who wants a running to-do list attached to the actual pages, not a separate notes app.

Set up in two minutes

  1. Install and activate the plugin.
  2. For a client, create a user with the Daytime Notes Reviewer role. For yourself or your team, an Administrator or Editor account works as it is.
  3. Send your client their login. They can leave notes straight away, with no access to the admin.

No setup screens to work through. It works the moment it’s activated.

A complete tool, not a gateway

Free stays free, and stays maintained. Bug fixes, WordPress compatibility updates and support all carry on whether or not you ever need more. If you later want file attachments, a Notes Manager with full oversight, or more control over notifications, Daytime Notes Pro is there. Plenty of people will never need it, and that’s exactly how it’s meant to work.
